My ICSI Experience at Sunrise

Reception and follow-up at Sunrise Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) Center:

From the moment we entered the Sunrise Fertility Center, we felt comfortable and supported by the friendly staff. We were warmly welcomed and given all the necessary information about the ICSI procedure and its steps. Dr. Sherif Basha Seif, known for many success stories in ICSI procedures, conducted the consultation. Additionally, the medical team and staff offered continuous follow-up and psychological support to ensure the success of the Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) procedure.

The steps of the ICSI procedure and my experience with it:

I underwent comprehensive examinations to make sure I was safe to undergo ICSI. The steps of the procedure were as follows:

  • Ovarian stimulation is performed to develop the maximum number of eggs through the Gonadotropin and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). The development of the eggs is closely monitored for two weeks before the egg retrieval. During the first week, the estrogen level is checked by ultrasound to monitor the maturation of the eggs in the follicles. After confirming that they are fully developed, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is injected to stimulate the eggs to mature.
  • Eggs are retrieved 34-36 hours after maturation via laparoscopy or vaginally through an ultrasound-guided needle.
  • The sperm are collected to fertilize the eggs in the lab, after isolating the healthy sperm from the non-viable ones.
  • The fertilized eggs are placed in an incubator.
  • After 3 to 5 days, one or more eggs are transferred to the uterus through a thin tube through the cervix.

My experience with ICSI, waiting and patience:

The waiting period after the embryo transfer was the most difficult, filled with conflicting emotions of hope and fear. However, the constant support of the Sunrise Fertility Center staff helped me get through this challenging period of my experience.

The dream comes true:

Two weeks after the embryo transfer, I received the good news: I’m pregnant! I couldn’t believe it at first, it was an indescribable moment, a feeling of joy and happiness like no other.

When to undergo ICSI?

There are many reasons for women and men to undergo ICSI, such as:

  • Blocked fallopian tubes preventing the eggs from passing into the uterus  to be fertilized with sperm.
  • Endometriosis, which is severe adhesions in the uterine wall that prevent the natural egg transfer.
  • Severe adhesions in the pelvis.
  • Low ovarian reserve, especially after the age of 35.
  • Low sperm count.
  • Sperm deformity or poor motility.
  • Problems with ejaculation or erection in the husband.

 

Finally, my experience with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) at Sunrise Fertility Center was positive in every sense of the word. The staff was like a family to me and helped me achieve my dream of motherhood.
