IUI (Intrauterine Insemination)

IUI (Intrauterine Insemination)

1. The first visit is on the 2nd or 3rd day of the menstrual cycle.
2. The female first undergoes a baseline trans-vaginal ultrasound.
3. She then starts the induction of ovulation on that day by taking daily tablets or injections.
4. Regular visits are required for assessment of response to the induction by ultrasound scanning.
5. When the follicles reach the mature size, the patient is triggered by HCG injection for ovulation.
6. 36-40 hours later, IUI is carried out.

On the day of the procedure:

  1. The male produces the semen sample in a sterile cup after abstaining from ejaculation for 4-5 days.
  2. The semen sample is then processed in the laboratory for a period of about 40-60 min. During which the sample is centrifuged and washed clear of all debris and bacteria. The highly motile sperms are separated by special techniques.
  3. The sample is then injected into the women’s uterus in a very simple short and painless procedure with no anesthesia required.
  4. Bed rest is not needed after the procedure and the patient can resume normal activities right away.
  5. Sexual intercourse is not forbidden, on the contrary it is recommended after two days following the procedure.
